review 1: 4.5 stars“It’s not what you lose, it’s how you live after that loss.”This book gave my heart a workout. I loved it. I had to take actual breaks to purse my lips and exercise my cheeks because they were getting stiff from grinning so much. I also may have had to take a few breaks to cry… sometimes they were happy tears and sometimes they were heart-breaking tears. This is the second book in the Mathews Family series. Both can be read as standalones.Charlie and Lucy were victims of a tragic event that changed the course of both of their lives. A year later their paths cross again, although Charlie who is blinded by his grief doesn’t remember Lucy. As these two become friends and began to heal one another, Lucy is left conflicted and guilt-ridden about th... moree secret she is hiding. If she tells Charlie, she could lose him forever. The relationship between Charlie and Lucy is just absolutely beautiful. I loved watching their struggle to open their hearts to one another. There were so many awkward, embarrassing, goofy, giddy, and tender moments with these two. There was also a lot of turmoil as Lucy struggled with the secrets she held about the actual first time her and Charlie met. Overall, they just made my heart swell, and I couldn’t get enough. The author does an excellent job with the characters in both books. They are beautiful, yet flawed, and even the secondary characters play significant rolls in the books. There is also a new addition to the Mathews family, Jackson Mathews, who is the star of the show anytime he shows up in this book. I bring this up because I normally run from books with kids in them. I like them ok in real life, but they are a bit of a turn-off for me in books. I absolutely adored Jackson, and look forward to seeing this little guy. He was impossible not to love and enjoy. While reading it was easy to form an emotional attachment to the characters. The author has a way of sucking you into the book and making you feel like you are just part of the Mathews clan enjoying the show.Overall, I definitely recommend this book. I read it in one sitting. I was really invested in the characters and the secret that could destroy them. Adrienne Francis has secured her spot as an auto-click author for me. I can’t think of a better way to spend my day then curled up with the Mathews family.
