review 1: I’m beginning to think that there is such a thing as standard New-Yorkian-male-Jewish-humour. It is toothless, not ha-ha-ha but funny, semi-intellectual and safely self-deprecating. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the book. It’s my equivalent of pulp fiction. Jacobs does play with interesting ideas, and I learned a lot from this book about cognitive biases, radical honesty and Washington, and a little bit about how to live my life.
review 2: I enjoyed this a lot. Blew through it in a few weeks of before-bed reading sessions, it would be a great beach read or vacation read. A.J. Jacobs takes on extreme versions of things we'd all like to try but haven't the guts. A month of 'radical honesty' (not only no lying but blurting whatever pops into your head, who
... morehasn't fantasized about that?) (but we all know it's a pretty bad idea, now you can just read about someone else trying it), a month of following George Washington's rules for how to behave (includes how to sit, stand, spit, speak ... move over Emily Post, this guy's got RULES) and so forth. Those aren't spoilers at all, you can hear the whole list of his experiments and it won't spoil anything. But I'll leave it at that. This book left me wanting more, I'm gonna see what else this guy has written. less
