Review: First of all, this was an interesting concept for a book. It’s set in a house with a pond out front that is guarded at all times because the countries water has given people sickness (Cholera). The mother/daughter duo guard and sanitize their water night and day. After tragedy more characters are added to the mix and it’s interesting to hear their stories and how they work together. It was nice to see the main character grow as a person having been around one person all her life. It felt beleiveable the way she was acting towards the others. The romance wasn’t necessary. I feel if Lynn wasn’t exposed to men ever in her life why would she all of a sudden be like “yup cool hold me”? A friendship would’ve made more sense. The “romance” was like I said, not necessary. Not every book needs love!
My issue with this book was the climax/last few chapters. All of a sudden all this action starts and 3 people are able to take on a whole town of men? And do so in like 10 minutes? It came out of nowhere and then all of a sudden it ended.
I know this is a series but I don’t think that I want to continue on with it. It ended really nicely as a standalone. I would recommend this for those that want to read an interesting spin on a YA dystopian that focuses on characters other than plot. Also have a glass of water near you at all times!
