review 1: Why does GR not give you the option to rank books that are so special and beautifully written higher than 5 stars?AJ Rose takes you on an emotional journey. Every single word is carefully calculated to make you feel for these people, because that's what they are. People. Not just characters. You connect with them, feel bad for them, want them to be the best they can be.You get to see them as they fly apart, get put back together, need each other, fall in love, learn exactly what they need to become whole. Not just the main characters but the secondaries too. Gavin and Ben and their relationship take center stage when it needs to, but the entire book doesn't focus solely on them. There is so much that happens in this that I can't sum it up in words because no matter what I ... moresay, I'll be failing to describe the beauty and perfection that is Power Exchange. I'd be doing a disservice to AJ and her boys, not only Ben and Gavin but the vics, their partners, families, friends, and so on. Previously, the Deviations Series held the top spot in my list of favorite BDSM books, well, AJ easily booted Tobias/Noah/Phan out of that position and firmly planted Ben/Gavin there. I've been assured that Safeword is just as intense as Power Exchange. I'm looking forward to it. I posted on Facebook: "The biggest sign of an incredibly well-written book for me is if I can't decide whether I want to read faster or read slower... Devour it or savor it... I'm having that problem right now and it's fantastic."That pretty much sums up my feelings. Except that now I have all these feeling floating around freely, wreaking havoc on me. I feel like I was put through the emotional wringer and now am left to sort through the wreckage of my emotional state. How can I be expected to sound coherent after that? And how in the world am I supposed to go to sleep?I haven't had this sort of raw emotional reaction to a story in a long time. Bravo AJ... Bravo.7 Stars... Beautifully written story that earned every single star.
review 2: I'm not going to reiterate what most have said because I agree. It's a good book...but... As far as Gavin being the best detective? Err no, not at all. I'm like most where his reasoning and questioning is getting far clouded by his personal life taking a hit while there is a BDSM murderer on the prowl. Regardless of that it is good, the mystery is weak and yet is still worth the read. However, this bugged me big time. And I may not be a practicing submissive or dominant or even a switch to know what hard limits and soft limits are. In this book A.J. swapped them. I don't know if anyone else noticed that. As soon as I read that I had to check what I already knew to see if I was losing it or not. If you look it up a hard limit is exactly what it means: will not do. Soft limits are open to discussion and considered. Look at it like a rating system which ironically A.J. Rose uses, but didn't elaborate on that either. Example: rimming could be a soft limit rated using 1-10 and 1 being softest while 10 is the hardest limit. So let's say rimming could be a 2 whereas knife play was a 10 being the hardest. This was not what Ben or Gavin come to conclusion when the contract was written. Gavin said it was a soft limit with public displays limited to lifestyle situations until he was more comfortable. Actually that should have been a hard limit possibly closer to a rating of 8 because of how Gavin was not out in any aspect of being a sub or gay. This is a hard limit for him, but yet Ben states it's a hard limit for himself? Actually it should be a soft limit for him because he should be proud as Gavin's dominant to want to display his sub, but ONLY when his sub has agreed to it. I had some issues with this, and it should be fixed. Sorry I love this genre and even though I don't practice it I do pay attention to the details and this was a big no-no for me that led me to a 3.5 rating.Still worth reading and I do hope this gets fixed in the next book. But, I gotta say the lead up with the M/m's and supporting characters was enough to keep me engrossed. LOVE Myah!!!! I so hope tissues won't be needed the next book! less
