review 1: I was excited when this book was first released as the conclusion of the Weirdstone trilogy had been long awaited, however I was disappointed. I found it didn't connect easily with the characters in my head-maybe because not only had they grown up but so had I. It was interesting and thought provoking but so far from the original stories that I found it hard to accept. I will read it again to see whether it sits better this time-I hope so because it provoked great anticipation throughout-but took you to the brink and then let you down-and I do love Alan Garner-but this one was tough
review 2: I love Alan Garner, but I'm not entirely sure I ever knew what was happening in this book. That is not a criticism as the writing was beautiful and the ambiguity/ confusio
... moren was a big part of the experience of reading it. Whilst it is the close of the Weirdstone trilogy it is utterly different, particularly to 'The Wierdstone of Brisingamen'. If Weirdstone was the adventurous scampering child then 'Boneland' is the the grandfather, infinitely wise but who speaks in riddles. I think it may benefit from a second read. If you like the mystical and peculiar side of Garner definitely give it a go. less

Garner the poet at his most blazing. Deeply honest, moving book.

Phenomenal - be warned though, not at all like the first two.
