review 1: The story of the young women killed in the Triangle Shirt Waist factory fire is an important one and needs to be heard in today's world when it seems that profit once again trumps the dignity of working people. An excellent example of research and use of primary sources. I am looking forward to sharing this story with teachers who need models for research and incorporating original sources into compelling stories and arguments.
review 2: I grew up with a pretty sheltered life. ... moreook was a profound emotional shock. Second only to 9/11, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire was horrific in death and cause. I appreciated the foundation the author laid in this book. It helped me understand a little bit better the situation of the workers and their employees, I also appreciated the "post-script" to the fire as the author discussed some of the changes and why these may or may not have been useful. The dynamic women in this book are an inspiration, but in the end I feel deeply the words of Morris Rosenfeld, "Over whom shall we weep first? Over the burned ones? Over those beyond recognition? Over those who have been crippled? Or driven senseless? Or smashed? I weep for them all." For, in the end, all people deserve bread and roses. less
