review 1: Ако всички учебници по история бяха написани като тази книга сигурно всички щяха да искат да я учат повече. Книгата е много интересна, пълна с факти и любопитки. На моменти автора наистина се опитва да оправдае поведението на римляните като обяснява ситуацията тогава, но за мен не е оправдание. Може би щеше да ми хареса ако бяхме просто зрители на деня, а не реално същество, което се разхожда по улиците на древен Рим, но това все... more пак е решение на автора. Определено част от нещата (интересните факти) ще си ги препиша и ще ги споделя.
review 2: It's the little facts that count in this semi-fictional narrative. The author arranges this book chronologically and takes the reader through a day in ancient Rome. His facts are based on archeological discoveries and some of them are absolutely fascinating. This is an easy way to learn about Romans, their habits and lifestyle. Descriptions of banquets, baths (oh, those baths!), apartment style housing, dressing, sex, gladiators, and engineering feats stood out to me. I admit to saying, "Gross", multiple times as little living details were described. The translation contained numerous errors and picky readers could easily get annoyed by them. Overall, an easy and entertaining nonfiction book. less
