review 1: Some cookbooks are interesting works of art that tell a story and some are merely recipe collections. This book is Alex Guarnascelli on the page. Her voice rings through the story of her journey to become a chef , in the descriptions of her dishes and in her choice of recipes. This isn't a book you grab to find something to whip up for dinner when you get home from work. This is a book that you savor page by page, dish by dish, planning ahead to make one or another on a rainy weekend at home, for a special occasion, or to show your love for someone on a plate. And when you don't have time to cook one of the dishes, you can read about and taste it vicariously. The descriptions are that good.
review 2: Probably not ever going to make the crispy squid or duck
... morehearts (the first is restaurant fare, the second just not appealing), but there are a few recipes I'll try: leeks vinaigrette, overnight garlic bread, winter greens salad from the oven. Maybe some of the more involved meat dishes on occasion. This is a nice cookbook from one of my favorite food network chefs. Many of the recipes don't scream comfort food to me, but I didn't grow up in Manhattan with a cook book writer for a mother. Most of these recipes seem too fancy or involved for anything other than leisurely weekend or hobby cooking. I'll be sticking with meatloaf made with Lipton soup mix thankyouverymuch. The real piece de resistance is the yellow cake with chocolate frosting and caramel top on page 219. I saw a flash of this on a TV ad for the book and was sold. Can't wait to make it as soon as I feel like shelling out the cash for 14 oz of good bittersweet chocolate. I know it will be worth it and I know it will be divine. Can't wait for that! less

Just okay....didn't transcribe any recipes which is the mark for me of how much I enjoy a cookbook.
