review 1: The Heartbreak Messenger genuinely confused me. It’s about a 7th grader who does a breakup for his friend’s brother, but the more I think about it the more I’m confused. He does the job to earn 20 dollars. But why? Does he just want the money? Is there more to it? The Heartbreak Messenger’s plot is a 7th grader starts earning money by breaking up couples. As the story progresses, Quinten discovers more about his self. Ending with him ending the business he created for a girl. Not all that bad right? Well, it gets more and more confusing. Quinten does it to help his mom, but he keeps the entire wad of cash he earns. If Quinten was GOING to help, he would have sent in the checks. He seems to enjoy the power, which he admits at the end. He lost his friends. Now the con... morefusing part: Quinten does nothing that can help anything. He tries to reconnect with his friends, but they turn him down, probably because they hate him being the Messenger. He solves the conflict by revealing his true feelings, which I guessed at a grand total of 2 pages. I felt that Quinten was oblivious to what was going on.Quinten is a really stale character. He is kind, but he keeps doing what he needs to get money, which he uses to buy dinner at McDonald’s. But he said he was going to do this, but then he does this! Why!? The same goes for the other characters, Abby and Rob. Stale, no backbone, fools.I stopped trying to make sense of this jumble the second I got done. There was no character I had a remote connection with, no plot I could thoroughly follow, and no sense to be made afterwards. I don’t think any effort was put in here.If Quinten was more of a thought-out character, I would like this book more. There are so many plot holes its ridiculous. How can Quinten help his mom if he is hoarding all the money? How come he HASN’T paid the bill yet, he said he would. The plot was too confusing to follow, and I couldn’t make sense of any of it. He clearly suffers from a disorder like ADHD, because he can’t do anything right when he says he will. I don’t think Abby was thought out either, because she’s just as bland. Same goes for rob: bland. No character had any sense of anything, oblivious to pretty much everything. I can’t recommend this book, mostly because of the amount of stuff I was confused about. I can’t do much of nothing about this book. DO NOT READ!
