review 1: I absolutely loathe the concept of the vampire dimension where blood fountains and logic and sense rule. An absolute paradise that is so like the idea of the Garden of Eden that it runs into the same problems. Evil can't exist there so it must journey to our world. So how does one get transported by magic and the Veil. Then they end up in Regency London and it's a typical regency romance. Yet, you have this evil Rogue vampire who makes slaves and drains people of their blood, and is a bit of psycho. So how do you marry the two, well very badly. The villain nibbles at the main action and has scenes that while horrific show only drive the action once. He's the Trio from Buffy rather than the Big Bad. Like bad super-villains everywhere, his plots were convoluted and easily fo... moreiled. So you end up feeling let down because the hero is so scared of him.
review 2: I knew this was one of those kinds of stories-a series loosely linked together wherein the hero and heroin of the story are not supposed to but end up feeling passion/love/desire for one another, eventually ending up together. In other words, in this kinds of stories, the sequels that follow are terribly similar to one another. Hence, I picked up this book and only this book, I did not give any time to the following two books in the trilogy(not that I am saying you should do the same). I was on the first page and just when I thought I would put it down, I didn't, I couldn't. There was just something about the structure and language of the story, so simple and yet so strong that it spoke. Even though, the time when this story took place was not indicated(as far as I remember), the language itself clearly sketched the time for the reader. Most of what happened, I had already guessed, except for one thing, that one thing was about Simone-one of the main characters. It was a delightful experience reading Simone's and Gidone-another one of the main characters-encounter. I rated this story three stars because, while the language and structure were strong and even compelling at times, the plot is much too predictable. I might have given it two stars if not for the exchanges between Simone Gilbert and Gidone Ravel. This is all my opinion. less
