review 1: This is the first book in the Brenna Spector series. Brenna has a rare neurological disorder called Hyperthemesia which causes her to remember every detail of her life. A blessing or a curse, depending on how you look at it. It definitely helps in her role as a private investigator. It also adds and interesting layer to the story. Brenna is hired by a man to find his wife who disappeared. The missing woman is somehow tied to the disappearance of a little girl years earlier. Brenna's sister disappeared when she was a child and there are some seemingly disturbing similarities between the two girls' disappearances. Brenna's assistant is a rather interesting character. It took a few chapters before I got hooked, but once I did, it was very difficult to put the book down. There... more were many twists and turns and most of the characters were very interesting. I found a new series; the second book is now on my to-read list.
review 2: I loved this book. The synopsis caught my attention because the main character has hyperthymesia which gives her a perfect autobiographical memory. I find the subject fascinating and thought it was a great idea for a character. The story hooked me immediately and I had trouble putting it down. The characters are good and the plot kept me reading. I picked up the second book “Into the Dark” at the library before I finished this one. I will be reading more from this author. less
