review 1: Alison Gaylin won the Shamus Award last weekend for Best Paperback Original. Now I know why! She has introduced a brilliant new character to the crime fiction scene, as well as a fascinating new (to me) neurological disorder to ponder. An ability to remember every detail of every day of ones life might, at first glance, seem a gift for a private investigator. But Brenna Spector (great name!) has much she'd prefer to forget. Tensions rise as the story shifts back & forth in time seamlessly, with equal doses of darkness and light. Like her heroine, Gaylin is very smart, very funny, and not afraid of taking risks. My kind of author, my kind of book!
review 2: This is the first book I've read by Alison Gaylin, and it definitely won't be the last! The only reason I ... moregave this book a 4 star rating is because the beginning took like ten chapters before it finally started to spark my curiosity. It's a good thing that once I start a book I have to finish it or I probably wouldn't have finished. Although there was a lot to tell it just got monotonous after a bit, but then the fun really started. I couldn't put this book down! I can't wait to read the next book to this story "Into the Dark". less
