review 1: This book lacked an interesting or exciting storyline. Characters were poorly written with bad development. The mother seemed to be permanently obsessed with her child and fulfilled the cliché of then taking too many risks for her child. The "freak snowstorm" was an obvious attempt at locking the characters in to the village location to seal their impending fate with the unfortunate situation in which all contact to the outside world is lost. In short, do not recommend.
review 2: I held out much promise when I started reading this book. Once Cass and Ben settled in Darnshaw though, I couldn't connect with or really even like any of the characters. I felt that Cass didn't do much of anything to protect her son rendering the premise obsolete. The ending wasn't... more too clear and really wasn't resolving anything for me. I felt that the bad guy was sketched out but not fleshed out enough.The author did manage to capture the details of wintry surroundings. Overall, I was disappointed in this one. less
