review 1: MC has an eating disorder. I liked this book but didn't love it. I kept thinking that she had to know that her 'boyfriend' was clearly not actually her 'boyfriend' in his mind, but it was written in such a way that it was clear she was pretending to herself as well and that made me sad for her. It's a little unbelievable how absent everyone's parents are- and there is lots of casual sex and drug use, and high school girls dating college students, but that didn't throw me too much because after reading Anne Lamott's descriptions of her teenage years I'd believe almost anything, even if it seems like the majority of people wouldn't face these issues.
review 2: The plot of the book was pretty good, not the most original, but pretty stable. Sethie Weiss goes to a ... moreall girls school, she's a straight A student who does drugs....(hmmm.....question mark?) and she has a crush on this kid named shaw who clearly doesn't care about her but she's to dumb to notice. Sethie controls her body by starving herself, and purging. This girl has absolutely NO emotions. There is no character development, i felt like i drowning reading about her going on and on and on without a decent reason. I know what it's like to suffer with a eating disorder and Sethies reasons for having one were just... excuses. I hated how it was written it was so dry. The book's written in third person and that usually works with most books but while i was reading this I was so BORED! Sentences were very chunky. "Sethie sat down." Sethie looked at Shaw." "Sethie likes her shirt." I'M GETTING PISSED OFF JUST WRITING ABOUT THIS BOOK :P LOL. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T READ IT! less
