review 1: The main problem with Night Road is that it just doesn't go anywhere. A fascinating world-build, intriguing central character, and strong supporting cast sort of hitch aimlessly along in fits and starts, without covering any real ground. It's all character-driven stuff in a novel that feels in desperate need of having a plot behind the wheel. Jenkins clearly has talent, but this one (while well-written) just doesn't score. Extra points for depicting vampiric frustration with NYC's constant state of change. (Why can't the damn thing just stay like I left it fifty years ago?!)
review 2: Vampires pshhh Hemovores are my new favorite mythical creature. This book makes you think about what you would do if you had to drink blood to live. Constantly alert and distanced
... more from normal society, what would you become? The characters are really unique and the sense that they have lived and seen it all def comes through. This is so well written and overall gives a pure brilliant outlook of the hemes. Love it!!!!!! less
