review 1: Interesting concept and interesting world. I love the names Riven and Caden, and I love Caden as a character, but other than that and the fact that it was interesting, I didn't really care for the book. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, but the ending definitely had some say in how I feel about the book as a whole. My final judgement is that it was just okay. The concept, world, and characters at least made the book interesting and kept me reading, but that's all.
review 2: The first chapter of this book had me excited. It opens really well, with an automatically interesting and kick-butt girl on the run. Unfortunately, the story went downhill fast after that. Everything turned cliche and kind of silly to me. I don't understand why every single book
... more has to have an unconvincing romance. To me, her "love" undermined her personality, and it made her seem one-dimensional. Also, the characters went back and forth way too much. At first it was her sister running and keeping the boy away from her, and then it was her sister trusting her with his life...back and forth and back again it went. And the moments that should have been a really big deal were not written very well and much too rushed to have any impact. Obviously, this book is set up for a sequel, but I wouldn't read it. I was pretty disappointed with this would-be killer heroine. Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review. less
