review 1: Paranormal stories really aren't my bag. On the other hand, I have a fatal weakness for police procedurals.Amalie Jahn's Among the Shrouded is a blend of the two. It's a blend that works remarkably well.I see other reviewers have covered the plot and characters pretty thoroughly, so I won't bother. What I will say is, if you're a fan of either genre, try this book on for size.You won't be disappointed.
review 2: I don't think I've ever read a book about human trafficking before, but I feel that this book didn't go as dark and deep as it could have. Instead, there was always a beacon of hope shining through, even in the characters' darkest hours, and I think that's what made this book special. The paranormal touch was a slightly unnecessary as the story would ha... moreve worked even if they didn't have their special powers, but I suppose that was what made me pick up this book in the first place, and it did give the book an interesting edge. All in all, this book is a quick light read that anyone could enjoy. less
