review 1: I liked this...did I adore it? NO! I want a vampire who is strong, strong enough to protect the woman he loves. Not have a weak, though sweet girl who is playfully looking for vampires, stumble across the love of her life who happens to be a vampire with a life crisis that needs the love of his only true one to pull him back from the brink of becoming a human hunter with no sense of when to stop. Having said that I will say that I like the hero...but come on...can you say Mama's boy. (you'll understand this quip when you read it). That and Mama needs to NOT threaten the daughter-in-law and the daughter-in-law needs to back down when good is done for her when bad is sure death! Well, crap! I can't tell you ANYTHING without giving stuff away...and I hope you all know... more I won't do that! So, buy it, read it, discover for yourself!
review 2: So as the first book that I have read in this series and incidentally the last in the series, I can say that while there is definite back story with the other characters you can easily read Night's Promise as a stand alone. One thing about Amanda Ashley's writing is that it took me back to my first ever romance novel where the love scene's were more glazed over than described, and with her style of writing it works. This isn't a hot and heavy sex book but rather a heart felt 'love at first sight', 'learning about you' romance. I'm not sure that the hunter thing worked out for me though. As the story moves on you get that hunters are after them, even if it's not 'them' specific but rather vampires in general. But you get this bit with a hunter who is after one last big score before she retires and you see her twice and then she's dead. I would have rather had that bit drawn out until the end. Maybe the author was just trying to kill off the characters as a ending the series move, but it seemed like all the hunters kept getting killed. So I guess they weren't very good to begin with?I'm going between 3.5 and 4 stars on this one. It was a wonderfully sweet romance and I was happy with it in the end so I'm thinking 4 stars on this one. less
