review 1: I really enjoyed this novel! If you are a fan of Jane Austen, and a fan of the supernatural or gothic literature, you will enjoy this. The author dedicates the story to Catherine Morland, who absolutely would have loved this book. It is a tastefully dark novel that employs just enough creepiness and spookiness to give you the chills, but spares us the gore and nonstop action of modern day horror novels. I really enjoyed the subtlety of it, and I felt the entire time that I was indeed reading something that Ms. Morland would have enjoyed! The story carries many references to events, quotations, and characters from Pride & Prejudice, so fans of the novel will delight in the many nods to that wonderful novel. I was having Pride and Prejudice withdrawals after re-reading it recently. Although I did not expect this story to be well written I did expect there to be a more compelling romantic story with room for our favorite character's to develop as newlyweds. It was thoroughly disappointing how haphazard the plot went and it hit the fan pretty hard towards the last few chapters which I had to force myself to finish. The use of vampire thrill and mystery was ill fitted for the way this author sought to showcase the Darcy relationship. Disappointed with the ending chapters most especially, too rushed with a ungratifying conclusion. Plot holes abound with a wasteful use of characterless characters.

I almost refused to acknowledge that I had indeed read such a book, but to be honest, this really wasn't that bad of a read. It was insane, ridiculous, irritating (she didn't see their reflection in the mirror and just thought it was a bit odd!!), embarrassing if caught reading, and just so darn enjoyable all at the same time. Not many books can pull all that off! Although, I feel like I need to go back and reread P&P just to cleanse my reading soul....

so bad that I could not even get halfway with it.
