review 1: One night Ethan checked under his bed for his monster, Gabe. But instead of Gabe, he found a note saying he was gone fishing for the week. Ethan was worried that without his nightly scare he wouldn’t be able to fall asleep. So he conducted interviews for monster substitutes. In the end, none of them were scary enough for Ethan. Just then, Gabe returned early from his fishing trip and Ethan was thrilled. I don’t see a lot of educational value in this book but I do see this book as entertaining, supporting children to read for pleasure and entertainment. Noll, A., & McWilliam, H. (2009). review 2: One night, when Ethan checks under his bed for his monster, he finds a note from him instead: "Gone fishing. Back
... more in a week." Ethan knows that without his monster's familiar nightly scares he doesn't stand a chance of getting to sleep, so Ethan interviews potential substitutes to see if they've got the right equipment for the job — pointy teeth, sharp claws, and a long tail — but none of them proves scary enough for Ethan. The first thing that caught my eye was the amazing illustrations in this book. The illustrations make the pictures look like they're 3-D and ready to pop off the page. This book is such a fun read for young children. It's the perfect amount of laughs and suspense all mixed into one. less

This has got to be my favorite monster book to date. I love the expressions on the kids face.

The first graders love this book. It's funny. The boy can not sleep without his scary monster.
