review 1: Laurel is a 14 and just started at a new school Avondale. This was her mother's alma mater. Laurel learns in her first few weeks of school that she has a weird sense with flowers. She comes to learn that is called "flowerspeak" and that is is passed down through generations. I was intrigued by this idea of flowers having a magic about them. Laurel deals with lots of normal teen stuff. Liking a boy and does he like her, popularity hierarchies, and PROM! The book seemed like it was destined to be really good, but seems like it ended strangely. The book starts off with Laurel's 14th birthday and ends with Laurel's 15th birthday so you get a good feel. I just wish there was a few more lines after the last one.
review 2: Laurel finds she recognizes and can use the p
... moreower of flowers to influence. She is still upset about losing her mom, her grandmother and father don't contact her much and she doesn't have many friends. She is intrigued by a boy at a nearby boy's school. After reading so many adventure fantasy stories, this book seemed a bit tame/ boring but there was some tension with people believing/ liking her powers and what they could do. The prom near the end was interesting as one girl got a hold of a strong flower that caused the boys to get all over the girls, some cursing (h, b, d)Nothing I would be interested in reading again or recommending. It's a more subtle story of : the longing for those you love, may appeal to someone. less
