review 1: I really enjoyed Oathbreaker's Shadow. Original and interesting. Raim is likeable if a little dumb (sometimes by choice, it seems). My one problem with this book was that the resolution to a major part of Raim's and his people's problems was so obvious. And never addressed! Not even for Raim to say no to: "i'm sorry, that is the one thing I can't do." I assume the author is saving it for upcoming books in the series.
review 2: I was so disappointed by this book. The concept and the premise had me excited for a new and exciting read, but the narrative was clunky, painful, and cliche. The main characters are floppy and remain surface level in terms of engagement, the "action" is laborious and ultimately doesn't go anywhere, and the motivations behind the characte... morer's decisions are ridiculous and unbelievable. I stuck through until the end and wrote this review because I felt obligated having received it in a contest, but I didn't enjoy either the reading or writing the review. I do not want to hurt a new author, but this is terrible. Since there was no closure to be had at the end of this book, I am hoping to find some having written this review. This book may be suitable for younger generations who don't know better than to recognize elementary mistakes and stumbling in narrative, but I would be hesitant to recommend it even to them, lest they believe I enjoy poorly written stories. less
