review 1: I heard Andrea Gibson do a poetry reading a while ago (and I met her), and it was amazing. This book? was okay. Some redundancy. Little flow. The poems, by and large, just didn't resonate with me. Worst of all, one of my favorite poems, "The Nutritionist," has been added to since publication, so the version in the book is incomplete and missing a lot of the best lines. I think The Madness Vase is worth a read, but Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns is much much better.
review 2: The Madness Vase is certainly worth your time, if you're interested in exploring contemporary slam poetry. Some of Gibson's poems lose something for being on the page, instead of being performed, as some of them demand to be. But there are bound to be poems--or lines--or moments--that catch y
... moreou. What makes a chapbook good is to have at least one moment where it hurts too much to read on. I experienced that with "Gospel Salt." less
