review 1: The premise is simple - Cassandra is walking home from school after exams, turns the corner and finds herself on a different planet! She copes with the shock very capably, but city dweller that she is, she has to learn how to survive in a harsh landscape and is malnourished when she is found by a friendly species. Cassandra is a funny, complex young woman with a pleasant outlook on life. She is a typical teenager with a good head on her shoulders and we cheer for her to adapt to her new surroundings, interface and occupation. In between some justified bouts (but not too many) of sulking, learning a new language and going back to school, Cassandra meets extraordinary people who become her teammates, friends and family.I loved the world-building and had dreams about the book... more as I read it over a period of days. This is a great book for long train rides, to take to the pool and to meals - I couldn't put it down myself! There is so much to this world and the character that I hope it becomes a movie series. I wonder who would play Cassandra?
review 2: Second in the Touchstone Trilogy. Cassandra is working hard to overcome her homesickness while learning to live on the new world she accidentally stumbled into. She is now an honorary of the Setari, the protectors of this world. They are studying her more than ever to try to unlock the secret behind her power to interact with their lost home planet. She also begins to develop some psychic abilities, sort of like those that the Setari have, but with much different consequences.It's a fun read and I have enjoyed seeing Cass grow a little more independent in this book. I will definitely be moving on to the final book. less
