review 1: I was looking for some highly-original YA, and boy did I find it! I'm not interested in giving synopses, so let's just say that a group of teens try to deal with an alien invasion and leave it at that. Part of the fun is trying to figure out what's going on anyway, so I don't want to give those details away. Although the first chapter or so was a little too tough to follow, so skim it if you have to. I really liked the aliens because they were actually non-human (something a lot of SciFi writers seem to struggle with), and I enjoyed the not-annoying teenage POV. A lot of what goes on is just struggling to survive, post-apocalypse style, but a lot of resources were still available (perhaps unrealistically) so that wasn't too hard. I kept wondering why the electricity wa... mores still working, but I'm not complaining too hard because the book was more fun as a result. Also, there was no actual love triangle, which makes me happy since I'm not quite sure what edict of YA requires one in the first place. Lastly, I thought the main character being a portrait artist was a new spin. Andrea K. Host is self published, and I'll be looking for more from her in the future.
review 2: I'm not sure I have anything coherent to say about this book yet as I've just finished, but I really enjoyed reading it. It took a while for me to it, the first chapter I was quite lost and confused, but it came together quickly after that. The character's were wonderful and I laughed and cried along with them. Plus the story was... Not original exactly as there were familiar elements from other sci-fi, but written from a perspective that gave it a very different feel. I would definitely recommend this book! less

Very interesting and different take on an alien invasion. Loved the Sydney setting.

Only if the starting was a little stronger, it could have been a 4 for me easily.
