review 1: 3.5 stars.I LOVED the first two Touchstone books. This one was a bit of a disappoint to me for the first two thirds, but then picked up at the end.The first chunk dragged for me, with a lot about buildings and fixtures and topography, and I got bored. Then there is the fact that the romantic relationship that was such a focal point of book 2 just kind of faded away. I mean, it's still there, but all of the tension involved in it is gone, everything just kind of got all neatly tied up with string, and the majority of their interactions are just described after the fact, so we rarely even get to "see" scenes of them together.By the last third the action had picked up, and we get a satisfying conclusion to the fascinating story Host has been telling spanning space and time.Ov... moreerall, I am still a huge fan of the series, and will be moving on to the Gratuitous Epilogue immediately. I'll be sad to have no more to read about the world Host has created here!
review 2: The story was interesting enough for me to read all three books so there is a plus. However, about halfway through the first book, I wish someone would have told the author about trying to cut back. There was entirely too much going on in this series for it to flow well or for us to get attached really well to any character. I never really felt the whole love interest thing. I always thought it was going towards and for the author to throw in the Beside the too-many-characters-and-all-their-powers-to-not-just-glaze-over-on-names-from-now-on, I enjoyed the story. I didn't even mind the diary entry style. less
