review 1: Seriously, if your child loves animals--you must read this book. My 2-year-old is obsessed with animals and won't put this book down. He asks to read it several times in a day. I'm a little worried about what will happen when we have to return it to the library (that's how much he loves this book). It's got great photos of actual zooborn baby animals to correspond to each letter of the alphabet and little caption to complete the page. Some of the animals we were not familiar with like a Dhole (still no idea what it is). But the other animals like a Tapir and a Wombat, gets us talking about what animals are at "our" zoo and which are not.
review 2: Written by Andrew Bleiman (2012) New York: Simon & Schuster. This is a great ABC book of newborn zoo animals... more from A to Z. There are cute photos and names of each animal. And then captions of the animal talking in first person about something they are doing in the photo - C is fo cheetah. You found my secret hiding place. Shhhh, don't tell amyone! or K is for koala. I was born to cuddle. Mom's furry hug is just so snug. The photo are very colorful and show the babies off perfectly, like you are right there with them. The back pages have short paragraph about each animal shown, where their home is in what zoo, where they live in the wild and intereting information about them. It is a great resource to learn about the babies and a good springboard for more inquiry and wonderings about the animals. less
