review 1: I received this book as a gift.I loved this book so very much that it left me with a major sense of withdrawal once it was done.It was a beautiful story of unlikely love and friendships as well as a wonderful history lesson as well. The lead character is not the most sympathetic character, he's not supposed to be. This is his journey and his redemption. An enjoyable read and it made a major impression on me. It's one of my favorite books.
review 2: I got this book from one of my dearest people ever and it's always gonna be precious to me.I enjoyed the story. The beginning was pretty bloody, literally (damn, I got jokes :I). It was a gore galore. But I got through it and to the good stuff. It kinda bothers me that we never learned a thing about Marianne. All we
... moregot are her stories and gargoyles. And the ending is pretty open too and you can think whatever you want. It's "Inception" no.2 with the difference that I understand everything in "Inception" and maybe only half of the things here xDThe stories were brilliant and sometimes heartbreaking. Especially the one with the gay viking where I almost threw the book at the wall :I Poor baby Siguror :(Wow, this review was horrible, gonna try harder next time xD less

Beautifully written - I loved the writing and although some of the subject matter was initially quite profane, the story morphs into a heartbreaking study of love, faith and belief. It was such an original story that takes you on a totally magical journey and you are either in for the ride or you're not. I was totally taken with this book - I read it as a library book, then I went and bought for myself. Then I bought it for my bestie. I have forced it on numerous people (as a loaner) and I think of it as a gift I'm giving them. My only beef is that I am still waiting for Andrew Davidson to write something else

While the main pylon of the book is a topic that stopped impressing me long time ago, I cannot but admire and applaud the author for finding new and unexpected ways to talk about a love story. The travel he creates for the reader through time and space is of an unbeatable charm. The dedication and passion for providing a sense of realism to what seems more appropriate in a psychiatric ward exude in each and every page. Highly recommended.
