review 1: "Ravenwood" by Andrew Fusek Peters is a story about a young plumber's boy who overheard a plot to rob Arborium of its wood, an item more precious than gold. He wanted to warn the King of Arborium straight away but the guards saw him and tried to capture him. So he and his friend Malikum try to warn the king about the plot. In the end they get the Rootshooters and the Ravens to help them destroy the enemy.Themes:HopeCourage
review 2: The first book in the "Glass Forest" trilogy is a British import fantasy adventure set in a forested land calledAborium. The story opens into the action with the hero, Ark, an average young sewage worker running and hidingfor his life after overhearing traitors plotting against the government. Thus it begins: Ark and his friends str... moreuggling to save their world. Ark must save his save his city from the evil Empire who wants to destroy their home in the trees. In Arborium, people have moved to living high within the trees due to the ground pollution caused by humans. Within the story is an undercurrent of conservation and the need to understand and respect the environment. The plot moves slowly initially, weighed down by the lack of dialogue and need to create a thorough understanding of this complex ecology, but as the book progresses, the story grows darker and the pace quickens until it's hard to put down. The main character being a nobody placed into a situation which requires courage shows how strength of heart is all that is sometimes needed for average people to do extraordinary things. The author writes with humor, an ability to make the unbelievable believable, and an amusing dash of Aborium-specifictree colloquialisms which enhance the entertainment value of the reading. A perfect blend of man versus nature, coming-of-age, action-packed, witty, adventure fantasy. less
