review 1: In 1936, England was rocked by scandal when their new king chose to give up his crown to marry an American divorcee. However, in Paris during World War I, there was another woman in the young Prince Edward’s life and another scandal that was artfully covered up by British officials. Rose presents a meticulously researched tale of murder, blackmail, and the foolish indiscretions of a young man in love that should appeal to true crime readers and Anglophiles alike.
review 2: Very disappointing, apart from some amusing asides and anecdotes as well as the court scènes, there is of little interest with most of the book based on supposition as the Prince's diary entries were destroyed. Obviously this makes it a tough task for the author but it got tiring to read
... more'probably' and 'possibly' with hypothetical scenarios. Read it through to the eend because it merited it but it was a real trial. The Prince and all his strengths and weaknesses that ultimately made it a good thing he abdicated is well drawn but thze Princess is of so little interest that the book is already at a disadvantage. less

Rote-roe! More nasty Royal stuff. What happens when one has more money and time than common sense.

Too long. Badly edited and badly proof-read. Interesting story but marred by these flaws.

Interesting story but it was too dry. I only read 1/2 of it.
