review 1: Eat People is an ideologically corrupted vanity book of ordinary ideas. Rather than list all the ways Kessler is blinded by his ideology, I will suggest that you first read about the views of George Gilder, who Kessler idolizes and quotes at length throughout the books. Some choice opinions of Gilder: 1) evolution is wrong, 2) women are biologically determined to work best at home, not in the work world, so they should stay at home and let men work, 3) Africans and Native Americans are an inherently corrupt races, because (again) of biology. 4) the Laffer Curve, the far right's pseudoscience belief that if you reduce taxes to almost nothing, they will bring in a lot more revenue than if you keep them high, because ... magic! Please note that George W. Bush (and Kessler) sub... morescribe to this theory and please note the size of our current budget deficit.Kessler does not publicly embrace Gilder's cultural views (in the book, at least), but his snide and condescending tone and embrace of supply side economics (Laffer Curve, voodoo economics, etc.) so pollutes some of the ideas as to make them worthless. Why should I listen to him on Topic X when he's an acolyte of the Laffer Curve, one of the crackpot economic theories embraced by the far right. And for those ideas that aren't polluted by Kessler's right wing agenda, they're just ordinary and obvious. For example, he says that companies should be "horizontal". That is, they shouldn't try to own the entire supply chain of their product. Yeah! No kidding! That advice might have been profound in the late 19th century, but I think we've all moved passed that now. What a crap book.
review 2: I didn't care so much for this one. I'm a huge Kessler fan, though this is the first of his books I've read. It seemed to be a string of his columns with some extra filler. Don't get me wrong, entertaining in spots and I believe in his ideas. Just might have been better as a collection of original columns or improved with some tight editing.* Couldn't finish** I had nothing else to do*** Passed the time, would be **** for genre / author fans**** Everyone could enjoy this book***** Everyone should read this book, I'll read it again less
