review 1: Handcrafted Christmas was an enjoyable book. It has several crafts and before each craft the book tells the history behind the craft. Yes, this book isn't full of your new style crafts, but that is what makes it fun! "Deck the halls-retro style" The book gives you a list of all materials needed for each craft and the how to instructions. I loved the added bonus of the cookie recipes in the back and the how to on making a new years hat. After reading this book it does make you want to make more of your gifts. The author says it well stating "handcrafted means someone cared enough to spend time rather than money to provide something uniquely created, something that could not be bought."
review 2: I had high hopes for this book, expecting relevant projects and new
... more ideas. Sadly, this book did not meet my expectations. The ideas are somewhat dated, not very well defined (the steps are written out but not photographed; the only photos are of the finished product and those photos are poorly done), and it felt very amateurish. Keep in mind, I am an artist and an advanced crafter; however, I am still learning new techniques and ideas but this book sadly did not deliver for me. I will say there was quite a history or backstory accompanying each project, and these were very detailed and well-researched. Here's a list of the projects in the book from the table of contents: "Little Village House" (a putz house), "Christmas Corsages", "Needle-Felted Snowman", "Lucky Pinecones", "Tabletop Tree", "Christmas Crackers", "Pinecone Wreath", "Sparkling Snowflakes", "Little Snowman", "Santa Star Ornament", "Trinket Box", "Candy Stripe Christmas Stocking", "Christmas Bells", "Noel Blocks", "Santa Napkins", "Diorama Ornament", "Holiday Charm Bracelet", "Cookie Plate", "Chenille Candy Canes", "Rustic Candle Holders", "Chenille Poinsettia Garland", "Sparkling Christmas Trees", "Bejeweled Balls", "Fantasy Birds", "Party Invitations", "Holiday Drink Charms", and "New Year's Party Hat". There are also some cookie recipes at the end of the book, which I did not try so I cannot attest to these. less
