review 1: An American journalist who speaks Japanese and spends time in Japan prays to the inventor of instant ramen noodles, Momofuku Ando, for guidance in his love life. Momofuku says the "fundamental misunderstanding of humanity" is the belief that we can achieve all our desires without limitation. From this Raskin comes to understand that trying to bone every woman on the planet will leave him more empty than happy. Strange, but I enjoyed it.
review 2: I read a number of mixed reviews about this book. I loved it. I thought it was really funny and honest while at the same time throwing in some moments of enlightenment. Plus there's a lot of cool history here about Ramen and Japanese culture in general. When I don't have my nose in a book, my Zen place is in my kitc
... morehen experimenting with recipes. My motto has always been "Cook (or bake) with love and moderation" so it really struck me reading Ando's quote "Flavors taste best to those who appreciate them." :-) This book's definitely a keeper in my library, thanks Raskin! less
