TBR #45; Dystopian Horrors

Welcome, reader/s! For a while now, I’ve been writing a bi-weekly post about books that are on
my TBR. TBR, if you don’t know is the abbreviation for To Be Read. My goal here is to shed some light on books that I’ve otherwise forgotten about. These books could be books I’ve been meaning to read from the library, or books that have been collecting dust on my shelves at home. My goal though is to say a little about the book and also give a little reasoning of why I want to read them. In hopes of reading them sooner than later.

The first book that I’ll be talking about is a book that I really only heard about over a few days on YouTube, and then that was really it.. I haven’t heard anything of this book ever since then. Which sounds incredibly troubling and I don’t know why.

Rook (by Sharon Cameron) is the first book (hey, that rhymed!) that I’ve seen on the internet, even borrowed recently, but have returned since borrowing. I left the book unread, and I’m having a little conundrum about this book. To read it or not to read it. At first glance, Rook seems like a book that I wouldn’t like, because the synopsis immediately mentions history. I don’t typically enjoy books that are set in the past, or that include time travel.

Moving past the first sentence in the synopsis, Rook seems more interesting. Rook definitely has a Dystopian vibe to the story. Which I am intrigued about, but beyond that, I’m un-inclind to actually borrow the book again. But I still want to read the book, you know? And I know that if I buy the book there’s a high chance that I wont read it at all.

The second book is actually a book that I borrowed the sequel to, since the cover of the book didn’t have the “this is a sequel to …” So when I got home to write about it in one of my Library Reads posts.

This book is called The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd. The Madman’s Daughter is another book/trilogy that I haven’t really heard anything about.

The synopsis is very, very intriguing. The Madman’s Daughter sounds like a book that I could easily enjoy since there’s a horror element to the novel. Honestly, The Madman’s Daughter reminds me of a few stories wrapped up into one. The Madman’s Daughter  reminds me of King King; for the jungle aspect of the novel, and for the scientist/island/horror aspects of the novel kind of reminds me of Shutter Island (the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio).

I’ve borrowed The Madman’s Daughter a few times now, but I never get around to reading it! I always have it for a few weeks, and then life does it’s thing and I totally forget about the book. Then when I return it to the library, I always say to myself that I’m going to borrow it again. And the cycle repeats itself. However, the next time I borrow The Madman’s Daughter, I will(!!!) read it.

Have you read Rook or The Madman’s Daughter?
If you have, what’d you think of them?

Happy Reading!
Adele
