review 1: This is a good mystery story over all, but does take a bit of time to really get started. The heart of the mystery doesn't pop up until you are almost a quarter of the way through the book, and while the beginning does play a part in the overall story arc, it isn't the most exciting beginning in the world. The mystery itself is pretty good, with a handful of hints and clues along the way allowing the reader to play along, while still keeping all the details just out of reach.
review 2: This mystery written for upper elementary/tweens is a good one for readers who like not only mysteries, but also history. Set in New Brunswick in 1904, the readers get a taste of life in a coastal town at the turn of the 20th century. The mystery is engaging with enough red herr... moreings and twists to keep the reader guessing, but also enough clues to allow the reader to formulate their own deductions. The 11-year-old heroine of the story is Suzanna Snow, a budding detective who is a very likeable, smart, and scrappy character. Great choice for young mystery lovers. less
