review 1: Market Street started off so promisingly and I really wanted to like this book. It had all the right elements: a likable main character, her plucky best friend, and the amazing backdrop of San Francisco. Unfortunately, I could not overlook the novel's very strong notion that "a woman's place is in the home" which pervades the book. Both of the female characters are discouraged by their husbands from working outside of the home and must actively lobby for the right to do so. Additionally, Cassie's husband is a cad and treats her more like a sex object than his wife.
review 2: I received this book as a giveaway on Goodreads. My favorite parts of Market Street were the descriptions of San Francisco and of gourmet food. The prospect of more of these to come kept me
... more turning the pages. My least favorite parts of the book were the frequent fashion-label name-dropping and sexual encounters. I also had a difficult time relating to the affluence of Cassie's friend Alexis. Overall, I found it to be a good read, but not a great one. less
