After Hope breaks up with Tony and embarrasses him at school, he’s devastated. In a moment of revenge, Tony makes the location on her phone public. But a week later, when Hope calls Tony and begs him to stop the prank, he hears a shriek and a car door slamming. Then the call is dropped.
When Hope isn’t back at school the next day, Tony realizes that he may have put Hope’s life in danger. Can he trace Hope’s movements and save her before it’s too late?
The beginning of The Revenge was very interesting, and I was able to be immersed into Tony’s story quite quickly.
I think what surprised me most about this story was the fact that there are two points of view within The Revenge. The first point of view was from Tony; he’s an all around great guy who just wants some peace. The second point of view we read from is Hope. I really did not like Hope’s character. Hope is the epitome of what I find the stereotypical celebrity to be: two-faced, and just generally doesn’t care about the people who are in her life.
Apart from the surprising dual point of view, there was a plot twist that I didn’t expect. Which was nice. There’s usually a plot twist that I don’t usually see coming, and this time around I’m glad that I didn’t see the plot twist coming at all.
The Revenge kind of deadpanned at the ending (while being true to Hope’s character). Which was honestly such a downer. Truth be told, the ending feels like it was wrapped up quickly, almost like a last minute type-of-thing.
I had such high hopes for The Revenge. I’m glad that I read The Revenge since Hannah Jayne is one of my favourite Young Adult Mystery writers, but in my opinion, The Revenge was lacking her usual thrill of things.
Something off-beat about this book for me personally was that very quickly into reading The Revenge, a certain character’s age is revealed via their year of birth. I was aged like, 10 years. I felt like an old woman reading this novel, ahaha.
