review 1: Audiobook. Subtitle says it all: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America.DO NOT LET AUTHORS READ THEIR OWN BOOX!!! Why does a person who writes (reasonably) well think she can read out loud as well? SHE CANNOT! This is a difficult book on a difficult subject with many, many opportunities for pronunciation and enunciation errors, and she made so many it destroyed the meaning and continuity of the book. Particularly when she was naming a German scientist, she pronounced every syllable equally then did the same with the rest of the sentence. Since it was all emphasis and no contrast, it was impossible to figure out what she was saying. So: the book. Four stars for content (with the proviso that it might have been better if I were reading it myse... morelf instead of listening to her), but only two for presentation. It was long and necessarily complex. My one criticism is that Paperclip didn't stop after the 40s, which is when this book finishes. A relative was involved in the 50s, when Paperclip appears to have had different goals and mechanisms, and that part of the history doesn't appear in the book at all.
review 2: An excellent look at the ethical quandary this country found itself in at the conclusion of WW II. Should the hard core Nazi scientists be allowed into the U.S. so we could take advantage of their expertise in medicine, rocket science, etc. or should left to their own devices in Germany with the very real possibility the Russians would snap them up. With the Cold War looming ever larger the question was not easily answered. less

Wanted more background on the scientists lives after they came to US. Just read like a news report.

Compelling revelation about a secret program of the U.S. government to employ Nazi war criminals.
