review 1: My favorite anecdote from the book is one about Sandra Lee, the queen of semi-homemade cooking (and girlfriend of New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo). Bourdain describes her as the spawn of Betty Crocker and the Devil. read those paragraphs and you'll see why. He has a great writing voice and has a common touch on what constitutes good food. Doesn't have to be fancy. He can be rhapsodic about a basic hamburger. Just came back from Paris and had lunch at a place he recommended, Le Comptoir. Great French soul food. As advertised.
review 2: There is something magical about the way Anthony Bourdain describes food. I got this on audiobook (read by the author) and spent the entire time I was listening to it starving. I'm super picky, and even I was salivating at the
... moredescriptions of food that I would be terrified to try. Can't comment on just reading it as text, but I can highly recommend the audiobook (unless you're on a hunger strike). less
