review 1: The Various Flavors of CoffeeByAnthony CapellaAnthony Capella has created a wonderfully layered novel. While the story rests on a bed of coffee beans, it is so much more than the descriptions of coffee that will tempt you to get out of bed and brew a pot at midnight. If you like a novel expertly rooted in history, one that appeals to the palate, the heart, and courage of commitment, you’re in for a treat of the highest order. Robert Wallis, the twenty-two year old protagonist at the start of the novel, takes the reader with him from the streets of London to the jungles of Africa and South America for adventures of the heart and awakening of the soul. The story of passion, sex as raw as unroasted coffee beans, commerce, and women’s fight for the vote combine to creat... moree a blend that's a true page turner, one not to be missed.
review 2: This was the 3rd book I had read by his author. I had really enjoyed the previous 2 and this one did not disappoint. There is lots going on in this book. I learned a great deal about coffee and even more about the Suffrage Movement. All young women today should read this to understand what women went through to give them the vote. I enjoyed the twist in the tale with the lover he took whilst sourcing coffee in Africa.Persevere with the book as the first chapters don't endear the reader to the main character. less
