With a 4.07 star-rating (15,232 reviewers/ as of Sept 2017) on Goodreads, Fall With Me continues to push the Wait For You series by J. Lynn to to the top of mine and many other readers’ favorite series. J. Lynn, aka Jennifer Armentrout (click here for more ravings about her), has a way with words that not only immerses you into her bookverse, but leaves you satisfied and content as well.
Book Description:
Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.
Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.
But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.
MY THOUGHTS:
Fall With Me is the 4th book in the Wait For You series. It continues with the suspenseful theme of Stay With Me, and is also located in the same city as the 3rd book. You are introduced to Roxy in book three as well, so it’s nice that J. Lynn made her the heroine of the 4th book in her series.
Who are the main characters? Roxy and Reece. Roxy is goofy, unique, wears awesome glasses, and funny t-shirts. Her story is a bit heartbreaking. One of her best friends was a victim in a hate crime and he literally went catatonic. She visits him every week and brings him drawings. When strange things start happening to her and her apartment, she thinks it’s the perpetrator that attacked her friend and was recently let out of prison. But things aren’t always as they seem. The twist in this book was FANTASTIC.
Reece is the best friend of Jax (from Stay With Me, #3) and a local police officer. He had a “one night stand” with Roxy almost a year prior to when this story takes place (you’ll understand the quotation marks when you read the book) and things are a bit forced and awkward between them in the beginning. However, when things start happening to Roxy, he steps up and becomes her protector and savior. He’s super jealous of Nick ( a friend of Roxy’s who works with her at the bar) and the banter between those two is often hilarious and tinged with masculine arrogance.
While I did enjoy this book, I enjoyed it more for the suspense and not as much for the romance, which is really strange for me. But the suspense, twists, and events that take place in this book are just awesome. J. Lynn has a way with writing suspenseful stories that literally have you questioning who the “bad guys” can be. I veered away from suspense a while ago because I could easily pinpoint the criminal, but with J. Lynn, it’s literally at the end of the book before you have a definitive answer of who the suspects are.
With that being said, the banter and relationship development between Roxy and Reece is sweet and funny at times. For some reason I love reading about men who get “arrogantly jealous,” and Reece is the King of this. His reactions, facial expressions, and retorts are so funny I laughed out loud so many times. But at the same time, it was pleasant watching the two of them overcome their awkwardness and uncover what really took place a year prior during their “one night stand.” Reece, while not my favorite Wait For You series hero, is a loyal and sexy man. That’s one central theme found in all of J. Lynn’s books.
“Unfortunately, I also hated him, absolute loathed him. Ah, well, most of the time. Sometimes. Pretty much whenever I gazed upon his perfection and started lusting after him. Yeah, that’s when I hated him.” ~ Roxy’s POV
“Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place.” ~ Roxy’s POV
“But I don’t think I was a hundred percent until I saw those paintings, especially the one of me in the kitchen. You painted that after . . . after I left.” His brows lowered as he gave a little shake of his head. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I think it’s sweet.” ~ Reece
So if you’re in the mood for a great suspense story with a genuinely unique love story, J. Lynn’s Fall With Me might be perfect for you! It’s not my favorite in the series, but once again, Jen has an amazing way with words, and even if you don’t LOVE her stories, you will at least like them and be able to finish them. Be sure to check out my other reviews on this series!
