review 1: I didn't actually finish reading this book, so I feel bad writing a review. But that was not because it was a bad book. It was because I became distracted (and moved house), and never came back to it. It started with some impressive material about brains and the way people think, which made me think. On this subject (the inner workings of the brain and what each of us really is) I found David Eagleman's book 'Incognito' slightly more appealing (especially to a non-expert, like me). Sorry!Still worth four stars, though.
review 2: My brother recommended this book because I've been reading a lot lately about mind and brain. Unfortunately for me, it's a bit too technical for my level of expertise. I'm also skeptical that it was going to be able to address the ... moreissue of subjectivity from the standpoint of brain anatomy and function.However, if you have more of a stomach for anatomical specifics - or even the ability to skip over them - you might find this book rewarding. The author seems to be a genuine expert in the field with interesting conclusions. less
