review 1: I've first heard about this book awhile back, while I was in highschool. I only heard positive comments from the older students that had to read ''Le chant du Coq'' in one of their French courses. I was therefore looking forward to read this book during the upcoming year. However, we didn't get the chance to read this book, and I've promised myself that I would eventually read it. A few years later, I borrowed this book from a good friend of mine, and I am so thankfull that I did. I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite books that I have read so far. For all of you Frenchies out there, a must read, if you haven't had the chance yet. Arlette Cousture is such an outstanding writer. Her writing has the outstanding power to make you feel all kinds of emotions while ... morebeing so attached to Emilie's journey during the 80's and the 90's. Such an amazing book.
review 2: I quite liked this book. I began to think it was meant for a teen audience, but by the end I could see that it was more adult. I definitely became drawn into the characters and their lives and am thinking of joining my library so that I can continue the series. I almost wanted to continue with the french series but have a number of books waiting and some that I can't wait to get into. As always while reading in French my french improved, although the author was using some ancient words from the period. I found the development of the province of Quebec very interesting as wall. I could relate to being a teacher with a strong commitment and to stopping to have a family. less
