review 1: Christmas is a time for surprises and for Lucy that was what she found when she agreed to dinner with Bud. She had returned to Ireland to care for her grandparents after losing her parents. Working in the local pub she got to know Bud, time after time she had rebuffed his offers till he finally included her grandmum to join them. Lucy had no idea what was in store for her. Join me in finding out Lucy's surprise. Well written but way too short. Very good read!
review 2: 2-1/2 Stars.I love Christmas novellas and this one had lots of potential. I really wanted to like it more. But...It was like making cookies. All the ingredients were there, but they were never quite blended together properly, the oven wasn't pre-heated, and then the baker decided to thrown ... morea couple extra things in there that just didn't belong. Then the cookies were taken out of the oven early and are now under-baked. So while they smell yummy coming out of the oven and have a cookie shape, the cookie is a bit raw, tastes off, and should have been cooked longer.If this story had been developed just a little more, the characters been described in better detail, the sex on the first date been thrown out completely or gone into more detail, the family history blended into the story better than just being thrown in at the end, the girl being more excited about losing her virginity rather than it just being a mere afterthought, the original date being an actual date, the guy courting her a bit more, and the proposal being stretched out a bit... any and all of these could have been modified and really would have improved this read for me. Because it had so much potential. Oh well, it was free, so beggars can't be choosers ;) less
