review 1: An interesting, and somewhat convoluted story involving two damaged men trying to run from their past, only to find that their past holds the key to their futures.Logan is an MI6 agent, whose handler, Saunders, saved him from a life of prostitution while simultaneously robbing him of him of his family. Saunders never plays a straight hand, it seems, so when Logan is assigned to bodyguard Zak, a Russian-British violin virtuoso making a living with a rock band, he knows there is more going on than what appears to be his job -- saving Zak from being assassinated.Zak is brilliant at what he does, and does everything to the extreme - whether it is playing violin, skiing, drinking, or taking drugs. He is also depressed. So when he tells his father, a Russian businessman who may ... moreor may not have links to the Russian mob, that someone is trying to kill him, his father isn't sure whether it is his drug-use or his depression talking, or if there really is someone trying to kill him. Not taking a risk, he hires a bodyguard for his son, not realizing that he was also hiring an MI6 agent -- whose handler may be more interested in Zak's father than he is in saving Zak's life. From this set up, it is clear that nothing is straightforward. Throw in the added complication of an immediate attraction between Logan and Zak, and things get messy, very quickly. To say too much more will be giving too much of the plot line away, but Logan and Zak go through a lot before they can have a chance as a couple. Both characters are far from perfect, but what they find together may just redeem them. I ended up liking both characters much more than I initially thought, and I particularly enjoyed the banter between them - very English in style as it's both self-deprecating and understated. This is not a book to read when all you want is some fluff. But if you're after something that has a decent plot as well as a romance, you may want to take a look.
review 2: A real action packed read!Even though Zak was a little shit in the beginning, you can't help but love him.Logan irritated me a bit with all the blowing hot and cold. Bit strange for an English author writing a book set in the UK that Trousers are referred to as pants and a trolley was called a cart...odd. I absolutely loved Zak's internal dialogue. He had me laughing out loud several times. An enjoyable read less
