review 1: Good enough to keep my attention and I would certainly recommend it to people wanting a nice easy fun read. Predictable enough to not warrant a 4, and certainly not one I would read again.Must say I am stunned that we are to believe a first -time horse rider would be left to canter her horse alone. A buster would certainly have made this more believable (falling from a horse; in case that is an Australian-only term)
review 2: When Joey (Josephine) Rubin learns she must go to the Cotswolds district of England to supervise a restoration job for her architectural firm, her first thought is to get in touch with her best friend, Sarah, who has lived in Londond since her marriage a dozen years earlier. Joey's second thought was how to take her dog with her. Finally s
... morehe really considered the job, and how exciting it would be to bring an ancient stone relic to life, espeically featuring the works of J.M. Barrie. Perhaps a Wendy Room? What about the lost boys in the outbuildings? Such thoughts filled her mind as she crossed the Atlantic to deal with such mundane tasks as scheduling walk-throughs and advance magazine coverage. Her quick stop-over with Sarah and her feisty family drains Joey's energy and she's exhausted by the time she reaches the small village, site of her new project. Over the ensuing weeks Joey meets many of the locals, including the members of the J.M. Barrie Ladies' Swimming Society, all of whom are at least in their '70s, and Lily, the pubescent daughter of the estate's caretaker, Ian McCormack. The characters are well-drawn, the plot, while a bit overwrought, does work, and as should be expected, a bittersweet romance ensues. Sweet, with a touch of irony, but a very treacly ending. less
