review 1: Starts with a very slow pace and doesn't really get going until well into the story. Once it does, it moves along at a much better pace. The main character isn't very likeable for most of the novel. She has a very annoying habit of calling her staff who are younger than her "children." As she is only 35, it comes across as very condescending. The way she acts is a result of her inability to see the truth about her relationship with her dead husband and it's that relationship that is central to the murder as well as to her relationships with everyone in the story. The story is set in NYC in the book publishing industry and that element is rather interesting. Not a bad story. Certainly entertaining enough to continue to the end and discover the murderer.
review 2:... more> This was a very good book! I could scarcely put it down. Rogan's deft touch with characterization, particularly the heroine's character was just so spot on! The plot description reads like a formula potboiler, but this book was so much more than that. Jo Donovan, still mourning her Nobel prize winning writer of a husband after 3 years, runs a small but high class literary agency. She is at first annoyed, then disturbed, and eventually frightened by a stalker, who seems intent on ruining her life. As mean pranks escalate into murder, she must re-evaluate her married life with Hugh, her writer husband and delve into her own past and what he meant to her. I love the way Rogan plays with Jo's fatal flaw--she is very Holly GoLightly--and with her own reliability as a narrator. And I also loved the ending, which I won't describe in more detail to avoid spoilers. I would definitely like to read more Rogan and think she is one of those authors who loves writing and writers, as well as reading and readers. less

Kept me turning the pages. One of those where anyone could have been the "perp".
