review 1: This is a great book for people needing a positive and motivating read to change their life. If you already eat a natural-food diet most of this has already come naturally. It was neat seeing another perspective (ex. Mt Everest) If Christianity is not your cup of tea then this is not for you, as it is mentioned alot and even goes into defending the fact that it was put in the book. I did enjoy the voice - motivational Speaker?The book could have been half the size though, like everyone mentioned: the formatting was bad.Picked this up off the Lucky Day shelf.

... morek wasn’t written by any ordinary author either as it was written by Bear Grylls, a man who has just about been through everything, the tough and the great. This includes being a member of the UK reserve special forces which is one of the toughest forces to get into in the world. He endured the severe weeks of training, and also broke his back in several places. He didn’t know whether he would ever walk again after a terrible parachuting accident in Africa. Then, barely recovered, 18 months after the accident he defied all expectations and at the age of twenty three became one of the youngest men to climb Mt. Everest. These examples are only a part of the adventurous expeditions and trips he has been on, and in my opinion there is no one better to write a book on this subject. This book is all about how to grow in character, achieve your goals, be the best person you can be and live your life to the full. It steers you away from the bad and advises you to get close to the good and he proves his points and quotes using his past adventures and using examples of famous people throughout history. This is why this book is one of my favourites. A great example of his wise advice, which I thought was one of the most important, was chapter 21, in which he talks about failure. He refers to it as a stepping stone to success or an unsatisfactory outcome because failure only exists in the mind. He refers to failure in these terms because failure is an important part of becoming great and even the greatest and most successful of people have failed. A great quote to go with his ideas is “ its not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how strong the man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly… who at the best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory or defeat”. This is pretty much saying that it isn’t the people watching or the people judging you that deserve credit, it is the person that has failed because he has tried unlike many other people who sit there and judge. In conclusion, I really rate this book and think that it would not be the same book if it wasn’t written by Bear Grylls. It will appeal to all ages as it is so good. I would recommend it thoroughly because it has taught me many things and has definitely made me want to achieve my goals even more. It has also made me really look up to Bear Grylls as he has made me realize what he has been through and how he has come back and pushed through the toughest of times. Overall this was a fantastic life shaping book which I would definitely recommend others to read. less
