review 1: I know who Bear Grylls is, but I have never seen any of his TV programs. I have to admit that I loved this book. It's inspiring. It gets your blood pumping. It gets your mind working. It gives you an internal shove to get off your well-fed behind and get to work. You can read it in a couple of hours, but you find yourself thinking about it often. It's got some great lessons and some great stories. Grylls is obvious and unapologetic in his desire to inspirational and helpful and he succeeds here.
review 2: Meh. Read this one because it was highly recommended, but I'll be honest: it really didn't do a lot for me.I think it might work better for someone who's a Bear Grylls fan to start with, or someone who's never picked up a motivation/self-help book in their li
... moreves (and perhaps there's a high degree of crossover between those two populations?) who's reading all this stuff for the first time. But the motivation "lessons" are all pretty standard fare, and it vaguely irritated me that he kept appearing to claim soundbytes I remember hearing/reading from Zig Ziglar or Jim Rohn as his own (or at least, claiming that's how he thought, with the implication that it's somehow new and revolutionary)It's not that it's bad advice - just that there's really nothing new in it (and that it's wildly simplistic at times too)If self-help and motivation books were meals, this would be McDonalds - not a lot of real nutrition, lots of heavily processed ingredients, and all packaged and marketed to appeal as much as possible to as many people as possible and convince them they're getting real food. less
