review 1: Intrigued by its title, I picked this novel up by chance at the library I work at and was not disappointed. As both a cinephile and francophile, I was captivated by Beatrice Hitchman's evocative depiction of the decadent world of Paris before the dawn of the WW1 and its film industry. For those who love a good mystery, there's also enough twists and turns to keep you entertained, and ending that I am sure most would not predict. A strong first novel by Hitchman.
review 2: One of those books I probably wouldn't have picked up in the normal run of things but I met the author at a family funeral last year and thought I'd have a look. I'm glad I did! The story is one of those that takes place in a very rarefied world and centres on a mystery which - when the reader... more is let in on it - unlocks the apparent inconsistencies and questions from earlier.
